In this article, we will tell you about the best beaches in the province, their features, and locations.
Which Alicante Beaches Are Definitely Worth Visiting According to Our Guests
Most of Alicante’s beaches are located along the city’s coastline and surrounding areas. You can walk to the central recreation spots from the city center, while more distant ones are easily reachable by bus or tram.
Playa del Postiguet (Postiguet City Beach)
Postiguet is the classic city beach in Alicante, located just a 5–10 minute walk from the Old Town. It stretches 660 meters in length and 40 meters in width. This beach is famous for its golden sand, calm and gently sloping entry into the sea, and stunning views. Waves are rare here, and the area is kept very clean as it is cleaned every night. All necessary amenities are available: toilets, changing rooms, showers, and sun loungers. Postiguet has received the Blue Flag award for many years in a row for its high environmental standards and quality of service. It is situated at the foot of Benacantil Mountain, topped by the famous Santa Bárbara Castle. Perfect for a family holiday.
After enjoying the sea and sunshine, head for lunch at one of the nearby restaurants on the Alicante promenade. According to our guests’ reviews, the closest options are: Restaurante Kiosko Miramar (Mediterranean cuisine with the freshest seafood), Restaurante Mediterraneum (modern dishes with a sea focus), and Chiringuito Postiguet — a beach bar with refreshing drinks and light snacks.

Playa de San Juan
San Juan is the king of the coast and one of the longest beaches in the province — 2.9 km long and up to 90 meters wide. Soft white sand combines beautifully with excellent infrastructure: a promenade with bars and restaurants, sports zones, and recreation areas. It is located about 9 km from the city center and can be reached by tram in roughly 20 minutes.
Playa de San Juan in Alicante is ideal for active tourists: you can practice surfing, play volleyball or football in designated areas. Nearby is Alicante Golf with its luxurious golf courses.

Playa de la Albufereta
Albufereta is a quiet sandy beach located a little north of the center in a cozy bay, which means there are practically no waves. Its distinctive feature is its small size (423 meters long and 20 meters wide), basic amenities (showers, toilets, umbrella rental), and fewer crowds. It is ideal for a family seaside holiday. There are many children’s playgrounds nearby. Good restaurants are also close by — for example, Tapería La Boya Albufereta or Puerto Madero Grill & Drinks, where you can enjoy seafood and other Mediterranean dishes.

Playa de la Almadraba
Almadraba is a small sandy-pebbly beach just 750 meters long and 6 meters wide. It is a great spot for a peaceful and secluded getaway, located in a small bay with usually few people. Thanks to the surrounding rocks, it is protected from the wind. Many visitors come here to enjoy the underwater scenery and snorkel. It is suitable for holidays with small children as the water is shallow and warm. There are several good children’s playgrounds nearby, and these places boast some of the most beautiful sunsets in all of Spain.

Saladar-Urbanova is an excellent sandy beach 1.9 km long and 54 meters wide. It is located 5 km south of Alicante city center, in the Urbanova area near the airport. It is not crowded and has a calm atmosphere, although the sea can sometimes be rough. All necessary facilities are available: sun loungers, umbrellas, toilets, and showers. The area is regularly cleaned, so it is quite tidy. The water is clear, making it ideal for underwater sports.
You can reach the beach by city bus No. 27, getting off at Urbanova-Latorre or Ctra. del Saladar-Urbanova stops. From there, it is just a 2-minute walk.

Playa de Muchavista
It would be impossible to talk about the best beaches in Alicante without mentioning Muchavista, even though it is located outside the city. It is 3.95 km long and 300 meters wide. Situated on the coast of the El Campello municipality, which borders Alicante, it is essentially a continuation of the more famous San Juan beach. It is very clean and has everything needed for a perfect holiday: equipped sun loungers, umbrellas, children’s play areas, and sports zones. A wide and picturesque promenade runs along the beach, perfect for walking. There are many cafés and restaurants serving local cuisine.
Main Promenade of Alicante – Explanada de España
The Explanada de España is one of the most famous promenades in Alicante and in Spain as a whole. It is decorated with a mosaic of tiles (approximately 6–6.6 million tiles in three colors: red, cream, and dark), surrounded by palm trees that provide welcome shade on hot days. It runs along the port and connects the famous Postiguet Beach with the marina. There are many cafés and restaurants, and street performers regularly entertain visitors. At the southern end of the Explanada is Canalejas Park — the oldest city park with century-old fig trees. It is an excellent continuation of your walk in the shade of greenery if you want to relax away from the sea.
